Land Acknowledgement

Zerin Development Corporation acknowledges that our apartment community is on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lunaapeewak, and Attawandaron Peoples. We recognize that these lands are covered by Treaty 6, the London Township Treaty (1796), and the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Covenant, an agreement between nations to share and care for the land and its resources in peace.

Our buildings stand near Deshkan Ziibiing, the Antler/Thames River, a lifeline for the peoples who have lived in relationship with this territory since time immemorial. The river has carried stories, trade, and traditions, and it remains a vital part of the landscape and history of this region.

The longhouse, central to Haudenosaunee culture, represents not just shelter but a way of lifeā€”one that values community, governance, and collective responsibility. As we foster community within our apartments, we reflect on the longhouse as a model for shared living, where relationships with one another and the land are guided by respect and reciprocity.

We acknowledge the ongoing presence, contributions, and rights of Indigenous Peoples and recognize our shared responsibilities in upholding the spirit of the treaties. We are committed to learning from Indigenous leadership in sustainability, stewardship, and community-building and encourage those who call this building home to reflect on how we can all contribute to a future of mutual respect and reconciliation.
